ROTTERDAM / PASADENA — Sophia Space has picked Spherical to lead the design and delivery of the complete Electrical Power System (EPS) and battery architecture for Sophia Space's Athena Project. Spherical is going to deliver the full Electrical Power System (EPS) and battery architecture, from design through flight.

This marks our first major US commercial deal, and a partnership we see as a foundational step toward a much larger future for both companies. Spherical was founded with the idea to design aerospace silicon from the ground up, and that same engineering rigor carries through to the power systems we build on top of it, including the EPS we are delivering to Sophia.

The Athena mission is an in-orbit demonstration of Sophia's TILE which is a solution to a common industry bottleneck: getting significant compute power close to sensors in orbit without overheating. Their architecture uses flat, modular compute slabs that integrate power, processing, and passive thermal management. This allows heat to radiate directly into space instead of relying on active cooling, which means satellites can process data in orbit rather than waiting for a downlink window.

Our role is to build the hardware that keeps the platform running. We are providing a flight-qualified EPS from our modular product line, tailored specifically to TILE's unique mechanical and interface requirements. Our engineering team is working closely with Sophia's from the requirements phase all the way through qualification.
